The D2 men traveled out to Long Island after a week one win against White Plains and were looking to put points up on the board.
And that’s exactly what they did. The Lions came out strong in the first half, with three tries in the first 15 minutes of the half, scored by wings Tyrell Moore, Rashid Perkins and prop Felipe Adriosola.
While the Lions dominated the first half’s score board and scrum set pieces, windy weather out on Long Island hindered the Lions ability to effectively use their height to their advantage in the lineouts.
Long Island managed to squeak in a penalty kick before the half, but not before tries by second row Rob Stabile and fullback Alex Sheidler, putting the halftime score at 27-3.
The second half commenced with two tries in rapid succession; Rob Stabile scored his second, with center Bryan McCorkle eviscerating Long Island’s backline for his first try of the game.
Despite strong appearances from the Lions subs—and continued domination in the scrums—Long Island managed to put up two tries in the last 15 minutes of regulation, finishing the game out at 39-17 to the Lions.
Rob Stabile won defensive player of the game for his stellar defense around the edge of rucks and in the open field.
