This past Saturday, the Village Lions D2 Men took on Landsdowne RFC at Randall’s Island in their first match of the Spring 2018 season. The Lions got out to an early lead with the first try being notched by inside center Kevin Morgan in the 15th minute with a converted kick by flyhalf, Zach White.

Landsdowne answered back later on into the first half with their own unconverted try to have the match at 7-5. Scrumhalf Greg Alexander was able to give the Lions a little more breathing room before going into the half with a try in the 40th minute. That try set the tone for the second half as Lions came out fired up and hit the pitch with a new energy. Fullback Tyrell Moore fielded a kick, ran cross field and down the far sideline to score the first try of the second half for the Lions in the 42nd minute. Zach White went on to convert that kick as well.

Newcomer Pierre Thertus, who first started playing rugby back in the fall, was able to use his combination of speed, aggression, and natural athletic ability to touch down his first try in the 54th minute of the contest and help the Lions pull ahead to a very convincing lead. Landsdowne answered back with their second and final try of the match in the 62nd minute.

Outside center Nick Alexander was able to get on the score sheet in the 68th minute by taking a well-timed pass from Vallon Adams after 8-man pick on a scrum just outside the 5 meter line. The front row got some love as well as Bronx native and SUNY Oswego Alum, Edgar Perez was able to score the final try of the match in the 75th minute. Both of the last two tries were converted by flanker Jack Faure.

Final result: Village Lions 38 – 10 Landsdowne
