Village Lions 22, Southern New York 14
Sept. 29, 2007
The Village Lions women improved to 3-0 in league play, defeating Southern New York 22-14. Scorers included Jackie Finlan, Alli Hinke and Woman of the Match Meg Collins.
Around the 15 minute mark, a textbook lineout on the SNY five meter set up flyhalf Finlan for the crash try, 5-0. About 10 minutes later, from another lineout on the SNY 10 meter, theforwards methodically drove the subsequent maul to the tryline, where #8 Collins peeled off and dotted down in the corner. Fullback Hinke made the most difficult conversion on the day, slotting the two-pointer from the touch line, 12-0.
Before the half's end, SNY's speeding #11 got her hands on the ball and motored at least 50 meters for the centered try and conversion, 12-7.
The Lions logged their third try early in the second stanza as the forwards marched downfield, eventually dishing to the backs about 15 meters out, where a Dummeyer/Finlan switch allowed the center to dot down for the try, 17-7.
Hinke put the Lions up 22-7 when a 10-meter lineout worked its way to the inserting fullback, who added a five-pointer to the tally.
The same SNY wing who scored in the first half narrowed the gap late in the match with a converted try, 22-14. Both tries were converted by their flyhalf.
Eight man Meg Collins had the honor of donning the Woman of the Match silver vest, while center Krista Buckley earned her Silent Force accolades for her hard running on the day.
