Sam, Trey and Rozger play for Rockaway in the first half. Adrian runs off to see his beloved England play France in the World Cup semis, and Gunner takes over coaching duties. Referee Goon is also in action.
First half: Early on, the Lions show that this game is all theirs. Just minutes after the start, Ali picks up the ball at a ruck at their 22 and runs it in. 5-0. No success with the conversion.
Rockaway kick off - and it's straight out into touch. Nice Lions run with Berger passing the ball out wide, but we get stopped short. Suddenly, the Lions get a penalty...pass to Jeff Gill who ploughs through and scores. Darius drop kicks the conversion as the Lions gimps on the sidelines gasp in awe - a drop kick conversion, wow!!! 12-0.
A few minutes later, the men in red (the traditional black and white stripes of the A side jerseys were on display earlier in the day) make a beautiful run from mid-field. Ali gets the ball, wants to pass it, but notices the defender waiting on the pass. So, Ali slips by the defender and scores again. Darius converts. 19-0
Geeeez, Ali scores another one, and the conversion is good again. Someone will drink a chandelier tonight!!!! ;) 26-0.
Half time: Gunner comments: "Let's make it clinical... Hook up the forwards and the backs...Let's make a practice out of this. The Lions switch the players they had given to Rockaway in the first half. Adam Schwartz for Jason Rozger, Ross for Sam, Gorman for Trey.
Second half:
Soon after the kick-off, Rick Allison scores a nice try, and the supporters cheer. No conversion success. 31-0.
Then, Mike Denton scores his first Lions try. His girlfriend and the other fans roar!!!! The conversion by Darius is good this time. 38-0.
A little later Andre scores. Wow, nice one, and nice score line. And hey, a lot of boots and chandelier drinking action lies ahead! 43-0.
Then we all watch a beautiful run by Paul "Youngie" Young, followed by a pass to Pat McCullough who is there in support - try!!!!! The conversion doesn't go over, but the whistle sounds soon after. The Lions win 48-0 to end Friends & Family Day on a high note.
Man of the match and designated big drinker for the night: Ali.
