*PRACTICE UPDATE*
For the next few weeks (at least up to Labor Day) we will be training at the following times:
Tuesday: 8pm, East River Park fields at Houston St
Thursday: 8pm, East River Park fields at Houston St
Try to be there by 7.30pm for some pre-training touch to secure space. Also be sure to bring water, gum shields/protective gear and cleats.
We will be starting to train at our home Hell Gate field at Wards Island on Thursday’s later in the season, but for now we have an issue with lighting on that pitch.
* END UPDATE *
During the spring and fall Seasons training is held every Tuesday and Thursday night from 8:00 PM until 10:00 PM. The Spring season is from around mid March until mid May, and the Fall season (which is our official league schedule) goes from September until early November. You must be on time and you must bring your full rugby kit, including trainers, jersey, shorts and mouthguard (new players are an exception).
Our practice fields are located at either Ward’s Island or in the East River Park. Ward’s Island is at the South end of Randall’s Island ( they’re connected ). The pitches, fields 73 and 74, are artificial, have lights, and where we play our home games. Its also known as the Hell Gate Field for the area of New York under the bridge across the water. The East River Park lies between the East River and the FDR drive. There are footbridges crossing the FDR at the east ends of Delancy, Houston and 6th Streets. We typically practice on the field at the end of 6th Street that is surrounded by the track. Our alternate training pitch is the lighted softball fields in this same East River Park at Grand Street.
Check our posts on Twitter http://twitter.com/villagelions or call the the Hotline (212.631.3533) for where we will be before you show up.
The nearest subways are the F train to the Second Ave or Delancey St, and the 6 train to Bleeker St. or Astor Place. Get out and walk straight towards the East River, cross the FDR into the park and you can’t miss us.
