During the spring and fall Seasons training is generally every Tuesday and Thursday night. Times vary depending on field permits, but generally sessions start at 7:30pm or 8:00pm and run about 1.5 to 2 hours in length. Check the schedule above for updates. The Spring season is from around mid March until mid May, and the Fall season (which is our official league schedule) goes from September until early November. You must be on time and you must bring your full rugby kit, including trainers, jersey, shorts and mouthguard (new players are an exception).

Our practice fields are located at either Randall’s/Ward’s Island or in the East River Park. Starting this fall 2010 season most all sessions will be held at Randall’s/Ward’s Island ( lights permitting, check the schedule! ).

Randall’s/Ward’s Island is at the South end of Randall’s Island ( they’re connected ). The pitches, fields 73 and 74, are artificial, have lights, and where we play our home games. Its also known as the Hell Gate Field for the area of New York under the bridge across the water. To get to the fields take the 4 or 5 train to 125th st and transfer to the M35 bus. Get of the bus on the last stop once on the island. Its the stop before the Gay Center round-a-bout. Alternatively you can take the 6 train to 103rd St, walk West towards the FDR drive, and take the 103rd St footbridge to the correct field. A field map can be found here http://www.villagelions.org/about/directions/.

The East River Park lies between the East River and the FDR drive. There are footbridges crossing the FDR at the east ends of Delancy, Houston, and 6th Streets. We typically train on the softball/soccer fields across from Houston St. The nearest subways are the F train to the Second Ave or Delancey St, and the 6 train to Bleeker St. or Astor Place. Alternatively you can get on the M-15D bus anywhere it runs along 14th St. and take it all the way to the end of Houston. Get out and walk straight towards the East River, cross the FDR into the park and you can’t miss us.
