I’m really proud of the group over the season. Our numbers went up every week at training and in terms of guys playing. Now it’s time to get the work done to become a better rugby season into next season.

Old Blue outplayed them Lions scoring 71 points against, while the Lions grounded a lone try from Chris Tite, converted by Fernando Torija.

Old Blue scored its first try at the 8 minute mark after the 8 man recycled the ball to the back line after a strong scrum. Old Blue continued to press the Lions and capitalize on mistakes and high tackle penalties to score an additional 3 tries in the first half. They converted all but one kick, 26-0 at halftime.

Old Blue came out just as strong in the second half. They stole the ball in a ruck to score an additional try at the 41 minute mark. A bad intercepted pass led to another Old Blue try at the 49th minute and a strong run by their 8 man ended up in a 64th minute score. Old Blue also kicked in a penalty score in between this pair of tries.

The Lions kept fighting and eventually got the ball past the goal line at the 67th minute. This was a result of captain Mike Tagliaferro putting away Chris Tite who was open on the outside to score, converted by. Fernando Torija.

Old Blue scored 3 more times before the end of the game and converted all kicks. Final 71-7.

“Really hard game today,” shared Coach Nic Clapinson. “It’s been a tough season rebuilding. Old Blue came out played a really sold match. Got everything moving and had their personnel. We struggled to keep up. We had our moments. Big learning experience for a lot of these guys playing against 7 or 8 top players on Old Blue.”

“It’s been the same story for the whole season,” said a frustrated Captain Tag. “For maybe 40 minutes today, we outplayed we were with them we were playing tough defense. But there were just stretches they were just rolling over us. There was some first teamers over there, some real good rugby players some tough boys.”

“All in: tough season we hung together and we finished it well,” Tag concluded.

“I’m really proud of the group over the season. Our numbers went up every week at training and in terms of guys playing. Now it’s time to get the work done to become a better rugby season into next season. So good job by Old Blue and we’ll get back at it.”
