Village Lions RFC announce partnership with Tiger Rugby.

New York, New York – June 09, 2016 – With training facilities in Columbus, Ohio and Pinehurst, North Carolina, the mission of Tiger Rugby has been to identify and develop players to play at the international level. “This new alliance with Tiger Rugby is going to provide great opportunities for the new rugby talent we are seeing emerge in New York City and the Northeast,” said Rich Gallina, President of the Village Lions. “We see this as critical to the continued strong development of our programs and proving the Lions model as a High Performance Club that respects rugby social culture is viable in the US”

Graduates of the Tiger Rugby academy include more than 40 US international players with the likes of Thretton Palamo, Perry Baker, JP Eloff, Joe Taufetee, Mike Te’o, and New England Patriot Nate Ebner providing a major contribution to the success of the US Sevens team in the HSBC Sevens World Series over the last few years.

“We are very excited to partner with a club of the ambition of the Village Lions. There is a phenomenal amount of talent in the NYC area, with some of the top clubs in the country plying their trade there,” said James Walker, Founder of Tiger Rugby. “The Lions want to become part of that conversation and are showing the courage to take steps to get there with both their men’s and women’s programs. Tiger is honored to be chosen as one of the building blocks to help them get there.”

“We welcome the chance to expose our outstanding players to the culture and resources of Tiger Rugby,” added John Greally, Village Lions Director of Rugby. “The high level of preparation and intensity at Tiger Rugby will set a standard for our players and coaching staff that will bring us to the next level as a club.”

The Village Lions RFC is based in New York City, founded in 1989, with the addition of the Women’s program in 2000. The Women’s 15s program plays in the Empire GU Division 1. The Men’s 15s program recently won the Atlantic North CR Championship and finished top 4 in the Nation for D2. The Men’s Seven’s program is now entering its third year at qualifier level in the Northeast. The Women’s Sevens program is the reigning Empire GU 7s Series Champions.
