Koma Gandy-Fischbein, who has led the Village Lions Men’s Sevens program for the last three years, and who is a trainee coach with Rugby United New York, the city’s local professional team, has been invited by Connacht Rugby to spend two weeks embedded with the club in Galway, Ireland.
Koma will spend the first week working with the Connacht Academy, experiencing how the Irish province develops its under-age program. In her second week, she will be involved with Andy Friend’s coaching team, working with the senior squad, with the two weeks culminating in a visit to the Sportsground by the Cardiff Blues.
The Village Lions Director of Rugby, John Greally, welcomes the opportunity. “Koma is one of the most talented coaches in New York, and looks to be destined for national recognition. We are very supportive of her gaining experience with Connacht and with RUNY and bringing this knowledge back to the club. As someone from Galway, I am especially pleased that we are forging a link with Connacht Rugby, whose brand of exciting rugby is what we would want to emulate here in New York.”
