Coaching announcement
* From Adam Schwartz: "It is with sadness and much gratitude that I announce that Shay Fitzpatrick has decided to step down as men's head coach due to professional and family considerations. We all thank him for his excellent and dedicated service in guiding the Men's team these last three years and in helping the men's team reach the division 2 playoffs, and we expect to see him around plenty.
I am proud to say that the men's head coaching position will be filled by two dedicated and capable Lions: Mike Barry and Adrian McDermott have agreed to be co-head coaches for the Lion's men's squad. Combined they bring experience, excellence in play, and about 20 years of Lions history onto the sidelines. Thank you both for stepping up to the challenge."

Village Lions Women at NRU tryouts
* Susan Pellecchia, Meghan Collins and Jessica Houser all represented
the Village Lions at the NRU select side tryouts in April. The team will be selected from two tryouts of players from all over the Northeast. Competition is stiff, especially at the back row, given that the Northeast encompasses several Division I powerhouse teams
(three of them ranked in the top 8 in the nation) and US Eagles. All three players performed well and have already brought some of the drills and knowledge gained at the tryouts back to club practices. Selections will be announced soon!

Barry to Help Coach Men
* After years of working with the Lions women, Mike Barry is moving over to the men's side to assist head coach Shay Fitzpatrick. For Barry, it was simply in
the best interest of the club. "The women had four coaches, and the men had one," said the former prop/scrumhalf. "I've learned so much from Greg Parsons-hopefully I can pass that along to the men." In addition to Fitzpatrick and Barry, Adrian McDermott will pitch in as well.

Luraschi Back In Town
* Winger Clay Luraschi, one of the great try finishers in Lions history, is back in New York City after three years in his native San Francisco. Luraschi followed his job as publicist for Topps baseball cards to the West Coast, where he played for the Olympic Club and then Bay Area newcomer Baracus. With Topps shipping him back to NYC, Luraschi is again suiting up for the Lions. Residing in Park Slope, he's already been seen slipping in and out of Lower East Side drinking establishments with Stevie Raia. "It's great to see all my old friends and so many new faces on the Lions," Luraschi says. "I can't wait for our first game. I only have one thing on my mind -- winning D2."
