Members celebrate our 15th anniversary at the 2004 Awards Dinner
* A night of fun for all at the Puck Building where the Village Lions celebrated it's 15th anniversary. A most memorable occasion with drink, speeches, awards and presentations. Many were surprised to see their fellow club members cleaned up and wearing non-rugby outfits! See the awards page for more details.

Men lose league opener to Morris
* A disappointing performance by the A-side against a well-drilled Morris team saw us drop the league opener. Overall a tepid outing from the forwards meant Morris were always in control with only a late Lions score giving the scoreboard a flattering look. The B's came out strong and played hard but ultimately lack of team practice cost them victory. The Women's game was cancelled due to flooding at Randalls Island. Men win 2 but Women lose away at Morris
* Men's A and B sides win their games with a total of 9 tries scored, 4 conceded. The B game was a stirrng come-back story with 3 of their 4 tries coming in the last 20 minutes! The Women were also attempting to come-back after being down over 15 points but ultimately came up short. Click on individual results on the schedule page.

Men's A game versus New Haven cancelled
* Disappointing committment by the Men as the Lions are unable to field one side for an away fixture at New Haven. Let's cancel Labor Day in the future!

Men travel light but come away with Silverware at Sea Girt Tournament
* Injuries combined with trivial absence excuses meant the Lions traveled with a hastily put-together side. However team unity was to the fore and the Lions returned with well-earned silverware. Click on individual results on the schedule page.
August 2004

Season finale - A's go out flat but the B's are champions!
* The Jersey Cup wouldn't be the same without a downpour! A-side played hard in patches but lost both games. B-side played with attitude and won some silverware. Click on individual results on the schedule page.

Flat day versus Old Blue. Was it a win and a loss?
* Bit of a messy day fixture-wise against Old Blue with the start delayed, then 10 minutes of unopposed scrummaging and 3 "halves" of 40 minutes! Good fight-back from the A-team after a sluggish start but the B's never got going. Click on individual results on the schedule page.

Friends & Family Day fun!
* Wins for the Men and Women with only the Old Boys refusing to join the winners enclosure. Great day, great results, great club! Click on individual results on the schedule page.

Women are Regional Champions
* Congratulations to Coach Greg and to all on the Women's team. An easy victory on Saturday against Morris was followed by a magnificent come-from-behind victory in the final. Down 14-3 with 5 minutes to play a spirited rally saw the Women triumph on a score-line of 17-14. On a more sedate note, the Men participated in the LI Tournament and came away with 2 wins out of 3. Women triumph at the National Quarter-fianls, Men go on tour to Boston
* Women's summary to follow soon... Men's Mystery tour turned out to be a trip to Boston to play Charles River and take in the historical sites! The A-game was closely fought but a one-point defeat had a comical ending whilst the B-side continue to concede too many tries. Click on individual results on the schedule page.

Mens A and B disappoint at NYAC, Women win 2 out of 3 in Washington
* Both mens sides were well beaten away to NYAC. Much better news from the Ruggerfest Tournament in Washington where our women's side won 2 games and lost a low scoring third (and final) game. Click on individual results on the schedule page

A-side and B-side win in jaunt to Massachusetts
* Sunny weather brought out the best in the mens sides as they recorded the first double win of the season. 33 players travelled and 10 individuals scored 13 tries! Some excellent open field running allowed the players to reap the rewards and to get some pay-back for their efforts at training. Click on individual results on the schedule page.

A-side and B-side lose in outing to PA
* First away trip of the Spring season resulted in losses for both the A and B sides against Lehigh Valley. The Lions fielded two weakened sets of forwards and came up against the traditional PA strengths of beef and bulk. 12 tries were scored on the day but only 2 of those were for the Lions. Debut Tourney a smashing success
* Only one of the two major snowstorms predicted days before our tournament actually happened, and the sun shone on Randalls Island for the first of hopefully many runnings of the Village Lions Time Warner Four-Leaf 15s. Read more...

A-side tie, B-side lose in Spring season opener
* Spring season 2004 got under-way at Randalls Island with the Men's A and B sides taking on Union. A-side tied 7-7, giving up the equalising try and conversion in the dying minutes of the game. B-side started slow, giving up 2 early scores before crossing the try-line themselves. No scores in the second-half meant a losing start to the season for the B-team.
