The Village Lions Women rock the Midnight 7s Tournament on July 10, 2011, at Randall’s Island in NYC.
The Village Lions Women are a USA Rugby Division I women’s team in New York City. We are a motley bunch dedicated to the sport of rugby and all that follows with it. We train twice a week and compete on Saturdays. We are always looking for new bodies with all levels of experience, so take a chance, come out and join us– the worst that will happen is you will like it!
How we started: The Lady Lions debuted in spring 2000 and immediately made their presence known in the Metropolitan New York Union. Originally formed primarily out of Vassar, Princeton and Amherst graduates and friends, the Lions quickly took on an active schedule and became the premier Division II team in the area, by going 5-1 in their first season. Soon after, they secured their legacy by becoming the first-ever Division II National Champions in spring of 2002.
After nearly a decade of success in DII, the Lions have entered its first season (fall 2010) in Division I and look forward to growing in this higher tier of competition.
